Project Overview:

  1. The aquarium has been set up in the Discovery Learning Lab by Mr. Cozzolino and Mr. Mike Jacobs, Trout Unlimited.
  2. The program and grade responsibilities were explained to teachers and students in First through Eighth Grade by Mr.  Cozzolino  and Mr. Tingey, retired science teacher,  who taught the program in a suburban public school
  3. Mr. Ron Miller, PE and Middle School Math teacher, will take the lead at SMM
  4. Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Math Lesson plans will be available for faculty
  5.  Approxiamately 140 trout eggs will arrived on November 14, 2011
  6. A camera has been set up in order for students and staff to view the growth and development of the eggs from home. Click here to see the streaming video. If you view the feed between 4 PM and 7AM CST the room lights and tank lights may be off, so there will appear to be no image.
  7. When the fish are “ready” they will be released into Lake Michigan with, hopefully, the entire student body in attendance  - WOW FREE WILLY SMM STYLE.

An 8th grade student at SMM created the following webpage: smmtrout.weebly.com
PLEASE TAKE A LOOK FOR MORE INFO - it is worth the time.

As you can imagine this is an extremely expensive venture.  THE COST OF THIS PROGRAM TO SMM HAS BEEN $0! Dave Cozzolino and Mike Jacobs are funding this project!  Mr. Cozzolino has already donated two (2) chinchillas – they are about $160 each; the aquarium and lights for the bearded dragon; and mucho supplies and food at a reduced price.

REQUEST:   If you need anything related to pets including animals and supplies and would like to visit a place where you can pet different types of rabbits, see birds uncaged, watch dogs and cats roam freely, then head for 625 Greenbay Road in Wilmette.  This is the busiest and “most fun” pet store that yours truly has ever entered.  Dave Cozzolino is a wonderful person and we need to support a man who has given SMM School soooooo much.  When you go there tell them “Peggy sent you!”
